Greetings!

Centuries ago (and it’s actually quite sad), neighbors were like the best of friends and the best of family members. When you needed something, they came even though you never called. When your house caught on fire, they carried buckets filled with water from the creek to save your home because they knew you would do the same for them.

And when that house (or that barn) could not be saved, they, and all your other neighbors, were there on the first day available to help you rebuild your property. Afterwards when all the building had been done, there was a huge celebration with food, music, and much merriment. The rebuilding of one man’s home was a reason for all to celebrate. No man wanted to see another suffer.

It was like people were different back then. Today, when people see buildings and cars burning and other bad things, few people try to help, then or later. Of course what people will do is snap pictures and videos on their cellphones and post them on YouTube or try to sell them to some media source. That is disgusting. That is not being a good neighbor.

Well, it is time to get back to being a good neighbor, a good sober neighbor. Soberneighbors.com is here for those who need support, while they attempt to live sober. The reality is that sometimes the house was never meant to be rebuilt, but it’s our efforts to rebuild it that keeps us alive.

How They See Us

It’s easier for people to mock

What they don’t understand.

People no longer reach out

With a sincere helping hand

When you tell them you’re

An ADDICT.

Suddenly, you’re a freak

Who deliberately inhales his own poisons.

At the end of the day,

Nobody wants to be around a freak

Because freaks

Make people realize

Their own imperfections.

Reasons for Drinking

People drink for different reasons. I can make an exceptionally long list of the reasons why I used to drink. At one time, I drank for any of the following reasons:

I had to drink to end my pain

I insisted upon a shot to stop my brain from thinking

Then I craved a beer to clear my mind

Of course then I needed seven more beers to help me sleep

I wanted a drink to get me started in the morning

And the list continued and still does...

Now that I'm sober though, I have another list - a much shorter one.

The reasons why I don't drink -

My husband and my two daughters.
